Ideally, these brews are only for members and not to the general public. Club members receive up to three growlers of beer each month based on their membership level. IMBĪB’s Collaborator Club also allows members to vote on which beer styles are made at the brewery. A CSA brewery adds a membership element, allowing customers to sign up for exclusive beers and perks. CSA breweries exist in Colorado and California but are not very common and don’t exist anywhere else in Northern Nevada. In May 2014, Johnson created a crowd funding campaign for the brewery on, raising $28,100, and added the idea of community supported ale (CSA). He also wanted homebrewers to make their own beer at the store and leave it there to ferment. The custom brewery would make special beers for events, like weddings, to supplement the supply business. When BrewChatter homebrew store opened in Sparks, Johnson’s idea evolved into a custom brewery that dabbled in homebrew supplies. Originally, Johnson wanted to open a hombrew supply store that dabbled in beer. Owner Matt Johnson started his dream more than a year ago as his partners Bart Blank and Jason Green brewed beer in Johnson’s garage. They also created the first community supported ale club membership in the region. They will focus on making fruit and sour ales, like their Chardonnay Saison and Apricot Berliner Weisse in addition to more common beers, like an India Pale Ale. IMBĪB is the smallest brewpub in Nevada in terms of equipment and production capacity but not square footage. IMBĪB (pronounced imbibe) opened mid-June on Second and Locust Street in a bright yellow, stucco building. And this week, the brewers will make an open-fermented sour ale.in a barrel. A large lighting fixture made of barrel pieces hangs from the ceiling above the bar. At IMBĪB Custom Brews, barrel staves brace barstool legs and customers use upturned barrels as tables. Thirty-two beer-filled barrels crowd the floor of Reno’s newest brewery, with the largest, a 496-gallon French foudre (a fancy barrel), standing in the center.
